well it says that, but no real official statements have been made That's what's confusing...I guess that's just how positive McKellen is that there's be no problems I can't imagine Peter Jackson (or Del Toro) wanting anyone else for the part of Gandalf. And let's face it, neither would we! I wouldn't be able to watch the movie if they had another actor playing his part. And I'm sure hundreds of thousands of people would agree with me. Orlando, Viggo, Cate, Elijah, and Christopher Lee have said they would come back too![/quote *excited squeal* ;D Frodo is a no, Legolas we may be able to deal with in Mirkwood, Aragorn...that might actually be a possiblity, since he and Gandalf did have dealings together pre-LotR. Eh I'm fine with Frodo not being there, but it would be funny if they managed to squeeze him in for ratings sake. ;D Although so wrong. I know how excited you would be to see Legolas again, so I'll let that be. And Aragorn...I think almost more than anyone else I'd want to see him again!! The warrior king himself. The unconquered. ;D And of course Galadriel and Saruman = White Council!! That would just leave Elrond that we need. Heck yah!! I really wouldn't want cast members tossed into the story just for the sake of having them there, you know? I really hope they don't do that, but as I mentioned above with Frodo...I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah cause like, obviously we'd all love to see them all come back again for a new movie. But at the same time....putting them in for the sake of them being there? (AKA: ratings, ticket sales, etc) But I don't think PJ, or Del Toro would do that. The studio on the other hand....who knows lol

Yeah, seriously, the studio might push for it. But they couldn't have anyone but the original actors (like Elijah Wood), and then it would come down to are they available? So yeah, we'll just have to play the waiting game to know for sure.

And I think you mentioned this before, but I'd like to second your suggestion to have Jeremy Irons for Smaug's voice. ;D
And I cannot WAIT to see the conceptual art when it comes out. John Howe and Alan Lee are masters of their craft (although John Howe is more my favorite between the two).

Oh my gosh yes I'm glad that they mentioned trying to get them back, because the art direction is a huuuuge part of how this film comes out

EXACTLY! It is basically the foundation of the whole project. You mess up the art and you basically comprimise everthing, from the delicate detailing in the swords all the way up to the tips of Smaug's horns! And both Howe and Lee have been illustrating Tolkien's work for years. Even before they knew Peter Jackson. It would make sense to have them. They better have them...

Ian McKellen confirmed that he's returning as Gandalf ;D He said Guillermo offered him the part in the same exact room that PJ offered him Gandalf the first time! He also informed us that they'll be starting working on the script in about 6 weeks Here's the article, with some more in it- www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=22480

Yeah, about him pre-meeting Professor X and stuff. There's also a Wolverine one coming out next Summer (Not a fan of the Wolverine one, we've already seen too much of him )
