I mentioned on facebook to Nienna that I was a mixture of excited and worried... so I'll just go into some slight detail on my worry here - I'm worried about the fact that the release dates will be around the same as when they thought they were gonna start filming a year ago. Plus, if I can be frank, I'm still unsure about how I feel with PJ directing this. I know I should be happy, but I feel like if he wanted to in the first place, he WOULD have. Now it almost feels like (to me) since other directors wouldn't touch it after it became such a mess, he's taking pity on the project by signing on all this time later.

Oh okay, I've got ya. But just listen, I think of it like this--The whole project hasn't gotten off the ground with any other director (and we know there have been many possibilities) because it just wasn't meant to be directed by anyone else BUT the King. ;D Call me wistful if you will, but I believe some things were just meant to be. And that's not being religious. I think it's just a fact. PJ just had too much going on in his filming career to be able to concentrate on a project of the Hobbit's magnitude before this. And absolutely NOT immediately following LotR...let's face it, he was too exhausted from filming 3 movies back-to-back to do another 2!! But now that a little time has gone by and he might not be doing as much as before (even if he says he's overloaded with things), he is absolutely much more capable to be doing it now. And perhaps it also has to do with the 3-D thing. Now that they have that, (and I think we can both agree on this) Smaug is going to look absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! If it's meant to be, it will happen. ;D

well in all fairness it was off the ground for GDT since they wrote all of the scripts and went into pre-production with him
But I mean....you know what I'm getting at right? Same release dates, one full less year of production on it? He only accepted when nobody else would? It doesn't seem a little....pity-directing to you at all?
I don't doubt that he'll do a good job, I just worry that his heart won't be quite as in it as it was for LotR. (With how he talked about how good it was to have a different director for The Hobbit)

The Hobbit is officially able to be filmed in New Zealand ;D
I didn't post about it much here because there wasn't anything official, but over the past few months it's been looking less and less likely that the films would be able to be produced there But luckily everything seems to be in the clear now #Niennas_smilie#

Sweetness..... ;D Let's face it, the movies couldn't have been filmed anywhere else! I highly doubt that the people of New Zealand would have a problem with them being filmed there anyway, since they loved it there the first time!! ;D

in a recent interview, Martin Freeman revealed that he starts filming in January, then he has a break over the summer and will be back in New Zealand in September in order to finish the movie by the end of the year Also that he's already tried on the hairy feet and ears Oh, and I changed the thread title since clearly the Hobbit isn't beginning filming in 2009

Oh wow, they sure sound like they mean it!! Here's the latest that I found pertaining to the movie: www.sltrib.com/sltrib/blogssundanceblog/53335520-50/wood-hobbit-films-actually.html.cspElijah Wood is at Sundance because he's got a small role in the film "Celeste and Jess Forever." That comedy was written by Wood's pal, Rashida Jones, who also stars. "And she asked me to do it," Wood said. "It's a favor for a friend, really." But what people really want to know about is his role in a pair of films that won't be playing at the film festival - "The Hobbit," which is scheduled for release in December 2012 (Part 1) and December 2013 (Part 2). "Did my part already, yeah," Wood said. "I was there for a month. It didn't actually take that much time for the work. It was sort of half vacation and catching up with old friends and half work." It was also a chance to return to New Zealand, where he filmed the three "Lord of the Rings" films. And returning to the home of his character, Frodo Baggins, was an emotional experience. "It had been 11 years since I'd been to Hobbiton," Wood said. "I turned 19 in Hobbiton. That's [expletive] crazy. "I stood on the hill looking at the hobbit holes and I was, like, 'I turned 19 here and I'm 30 now.' It was such a weird thing. And a lot of the same crew were there. That was the most bizarre. It felt like taking a step back in time almost. It was extraordinary." Wood has heard the criticism from purist fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's books about his participation in the films. Frodo didn't appear in Tolkien's book "The Hobbit." He wasn't even born when the events in that novel took place. But Wood wants those fans to know they shouldn't worry about his small part in the movie. "It's lovely. And it's very appropriate," Wood said. "What they've done is clever and it's actually a nice entry into the story." - Scott D. Pierce

if I were down there anyway I'd surely take a little extra time too ;D
So there for a month, but wasn't need that long I'd say we'll get 4 scenes with him at max

A month in paradise? I'll take it! ;D At least he has the means and money to be able to do that. And why the heck not?? And I trust Elijah on what he says...I'm sure PJ did his scenes with Frodo very tastefully. I expect nothing less.

Alright, wasn't sure where to put this. We're going to start getting a million updates soon so I didn't want to make a new thread for each one. Here's the latest that I could find: www.movies.com/movie-news/39the-hobbit39-countdown-speculative-look-at-where-film-one-might-end/6540A few pictures with SPOILERS!!!! Again, I'm not going to ruin too much of the plot for myself (I already know too much!!) so when the article warned of this, I decided not to read it. But you might want to if that sort of thing doesn't bother you. Just 10 more months to go...

it's not really a spoiler per se since they're just guessing where they'll cut the movies in half but I guess for somebody who didn't read it there might be a few shocks so yeah you may not want to lol ;D
interesting theories though
