I finally was able to see "The Golden Compass" a few days ago and I have to say, I was pretty impressed. I was a little wary of going to see it at all once I started hearing the reports coming in on how "the movie leaves you hanging and wanting more" and "too much is happening in the movie in too short a time". I'm glad that I was able to judge it for myself because I was not disappointed. I have just begun to read the book (didn't want to be judge the movie from the book, so I waited until I saw the movie first, like I did with LotR) and of what I've read (first 30 pages) I must say that the two are pretty closely matched. First impressions are everything when it comes to the first time you see/hear a character you've never encountered before, and I must say that I ended up loving the movie MORE just because of the voices in it. Two of the most respected actors and icons from the "Lord of the Rings" movies find their way into the plot: Ian Mckellen and Christopher Lee. My advice to you if you haven't seen it is to go! I think that you won't be disappointed. And I honestly don't know why the movie didn't do well in its first weekend in the theaters. It's no "Rings" or "Narnia", but it definitely leaves an impression.

Really? That sucks. Well, I'm glad that I didn't read the book first. But at least the special effects are pretty cool. ;D

So who's going to buy it, huh? ;D Hopefully I'll get it sometime this week. There was a $5 coupon in the newspaper last week, and Target is pretty cheap. Even if it was nothing like the book, I still liked it. ;D

I got the movie two days ago. ;D But I haven't had a chance to watch it all the way through yet. I've just seen bits and pieces. And I do recommend you to rent it, Shadow. As I said in my first post here, Ian McKellen and Christopher Lee are both in it. How could you go wrong with them? ;D Although just so you don't get your hopes up and am disappointed, I think Christopher Lee is shown in only one scene. And Ian McKellen is the voice of one of the animals, not someone shown in person. And I'm glad you saw and enjoyed the movie, Faramir! I still haven't gone back to the book since I started it a few months ago, but perhaps very soon I will.
