Allow me to be girly, if only for a moment... AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! *end girly* I can't believe it! But you're right! Six years to the day! I remember when it came out! I remember the first time I saw ANYTHING of the trilogy!!! I worked in a movie theater near my house in 2001 (I was a senior in high school) and I saw the movie poster for FotR outside the theater. It was the one of Frodo with the ring in his hand, just gazing out at the viewer with something akin to either fear or confusion. And I remember saying to myself, "It's just another dumb movie, just like all the other dumb movies that they make now-a-days. Just like the rest..." HA!! I had heard of the Tolkien trilogy, but I adamently decided against seeing the first installment at all. My mom was excited about it, since she'd read the books as a girl, but all I knew of Tolkien's works was the poorly created ANIMATED films they made in the 70's. Anyway, there was one day in late December that I was on break during my shift and no other movie was playing that looked good. But Fellowship of the Ring WAS showing. And I guess that I didn't want to admit to myself that I really did have a TINY bit of curiousity about the film, since I'd heard a great deal about it since it'd come out the week before. So I walked into the room where it was showing, and before I even had a chance to sit down, Legolas came charging out onto the screen at Amon Hen, shooting Uruk-hai and being an all around good fighter! And I remember looking at his outfit, his long blond hair, and his archery skills and saying, "Who is that guy? " You see, I've had an obsession with archery since I was 4 years old, and I've ALWAYS wanted to learn it. Here was a guy who knew his stuff, and I immediately admired his character for it. From that moment on there was no going back. I actually went to see the Fellowship in full with most of my family, but the REAL obsession didn't begin until an entire year later, when my grandma got it for me for Christmas. I had actually told her, "You don't have to get it for me if you don't want to!" What a foolish, foolish mistake that would have been. To make a short story long (HA!), I got it, I watched it Christmas morning 2002, and I realized that I couldn't get enough of it. I watched it two more times that day. And who knows how many more times that week. The more I watched, the more confused I became about why a certain character thought a certain way, and I was convinced that their lifestory must explain it. So I joined many forums, scoured the internet for anything Tolkien, and when the Extended Edition came out that next summer, I actually wrote on the calender what day the UPS guy was due to deliver it and I cursed him a million painful deaths for being ONE day late! And the rest is history. And that's just with the first movie. I have stories from the other two as well. But those are for another day. ;D

Woooot story time is fun! ;D Mine? Alas, mine did not begin in a movie theater. Mine began in October of 2002, when my family brought home FotR of DVD..... and I.......I.......I told them I didn't want to watch it I skipped to so I could watch a TV show The next day though, my sister described a scene to me, and it caught my interest. After enough pestering, she got me to watch it. And still, to this day, I beat myself up for calling it stupid and not wanting to watch it, let alone not KNOWING about it, and not seeing it in theaters

There there, Shadow. There will be no judging, especially on my end, mostly because I too had a sour opinion of the film without first seeing it and judging for myself. But rejoice knowing that we both were courageous enough to take the chance and see it. And now the rest is history!
