Do any of you guys do anything akin to Hunting or Archery? doesn't really matter what kind of either, I do hunting with both guns and bows (guns I admit are easier) and there are a few different types of archery. I'll be doing horseback as soon as I can find myself a horse and somewhere to practice (possibly someone to practice on, Mwa ha ha ha!!!! ) ^_^ Would also be interesting to know if anyone else does fencing or epee #duelingpirates_smilie#

Well I know you and I already talked about it, but I do! I hunt with a bow, as well as rifles and blackpowders. I'm not at all fond of shotguns lol *rubs shoulder*. I have used a compound and a longbow before - lol I love the longbows because they're so elvish, but compounds go a loooooong way. I was also the only kid on the block to ever put out the neighbors' window with a stray arrow ;D

I know that I've mentioned this before, but I'd LOVE to learn archery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought that at least ONE of the interns I'd meet here would have done it at one point in their lives and I was disappointed... But there are new interns coming next week so that might change. *keeps fingers crossed* I'm most interested in learning about the longbow. How hard would it be to learn something like that?

I have a longbow (so pretty!) and its not all that hard. The hardest part is learning how to feel instead of really aim (unless you have a low poundage) like mine's a 45-50 lb draw weight, so I try to just keep my stance as repetitive as possible and only change minor things so that I don't have to hold all that weight back too long (max of 1-2 secs, minimum as low as I can get!). It wears out your energy and shoulder faster. Recurves are pretty as well (Mongolian horse bows are GORGEOUS!!) and they're easier to carry around than the longbow, cause the longbow is...well...long! To referance, my longbow is about 65 inches or so when its stringed up, and the recurve I borrow (the mongolian) is about half that, maybe a bit more (longer when its not stringed) If you have a really light draw weight (poundage) you can actually aim down the arrow and take your time. because if its only 25-35 lbs, then its a breeze to hold back.
Now that's just longbows/recurves, Compounds are hard to pull back, but once you get to the point where you anchor, the weight drops dramatically and all you have to do is let go when you're ready. plus, compounds use sights, if you try and sight down the arrow you end up going waaaay off target.
yeah, methinks that's enough talk for now xD any specific questions?
Oh! if you're really interested in doing archery, and get into it (find a bow, place to practice, ect.) you're going to want an armgaurd and possibly a finger gaurd. my bow partner uses a wrist sling for her compound, but I haven't tried that out yet.
All in all, its not hard if you're dedicated and willing to do it at the very least a few times a week, if possible every day
