Hi, I'm wondering if there was any particualr way that you got people to join your site (s). I know about advertising, and I'm currently working on that. But even with advertising, we're not doing so well. any tips?

*grins* Tell alot of your friends... Send out e-mails and have the friends you told tell others about it.
Also, entering yourself in Top Sites will help alot.. You know like Tolkien Top 100 and so on

lol, well, I drove everyone bonkers with my advertising. I posted in the threads at other sites, I ran in CoE and went to the CouncilFree chat room and screamed my url madly at the top of my lungs (which they didn't exactly appreciate lol), I made sure I emailed everyone I knew at least twice, I joined Toplists like Kris ^ said, and I tried to become affiliates with everyone possible. I know that new site you've been advertising isn't a Proboard, but as far as those go if you're a member of one, you're usually a member of 15. We LotR Proboarders seem to run in the same circles. So find someone that is a member of 15 different sites, intoduce them to yours, and if they like it, voila - everyone knows.

Ok, thanks... Except for the fact that I have NO friends that are into LotR, I'll still send the word around.... maybe they'll just join to join lol. Anything else?

Its probably best not to have people join just to join... because well, they will become inactive... we still have lots of inactive people here. lol, try to get them interested in LotR

Beleive me, I've already tried! They are so out of it, it's not even funny.... Well, my thing is that if we have more members, people that come on as guests (we are getting plenty of those, so that's a good sign) will be more inclined to join...

Well that true in some ways, but you don't want 500 members and just 1,000 posts or something like that. Look at GotE. We only have 98 members, and yet we have almost 20,000 posts. That means our people are active! And every month, on the 1st or 2nd, we delete people with less than 3 posts if they joined more than two weeks before. If they have been a member 2+ weeks and haven't found time to put up 3 little measly posts, they've either
A) Joined and forgotten they joined B) Joined and then decided it was too much work to post C) Joined just for the heck of it and weren't planning on posting anyways
We always let them rejoin, whenever they think they can be active, but we don't want a bunch of unsused accounts just sitting there. Having all active members, however few, really helps!

Well, not really. Like I said, affiliates is a BIG thing. All us LotR forum-people seem to run in the same circles, and if someone sees your affiliate banner at all, say, 9 sites they're a member of, they're gonna go 'Hmmm, they have a lot of affiliates, must be a good place.... *click*'. And beyond that, just build a good reputation. And always have something to do. RPs, games, histories and pics and banners and all that. Never leave your members thinking 'Huh, I'm bored...'
