Caffeine and short term affects:
............nervousness, irritability, sleeplessness and rapid heartbeat, urinary urgency bowel urgency, dehydrate, irritability, headaches, dizziness, increase alertness,
reduce fine motor coordination, elevated blood pressure, respiration, basal metabolic rate, increased production of stomach acid
Fact:
Caffeine is on the International Olympic Committee list of prohibited substances. Athletes who test positive for more than 12 micrograms of caffeine per milliliter of urine may be banned from the Olympic Games. This level may be reached after drinking about 5 cups of coffee.
Caffeine belongs to the xanthine chemical group. Adenosine is a naturally occurring xanthine in the brain that is used as a neurotransmitter at some synapses. One effect of caffeine is to interfere with adenosine at multiple sites in the brain including the reticular formation.
In massive doses, caffeine is lethal. A fatal dose of caffeine has been calculated to be more than 10 grams (about 170 mg/kg body weight)
Caffeine Long term affects:........................................... increases the risk of heart-related problems, ulcers, kidney damage, bladder damage, uninary incontenece, birth defects, muscle fatigue and strain, loss of elasticity of muscle structure( which your bladder is a muscle too), addictive, taint MRI results, affect circulation systems, bone loss, bladder irritant, muscle stimulant, affect short term memory.
Caffeine, bindes to hormonal receptors, thus taxing the systems the regulate.
Caffeine overdose: Doses ranging from 250 to 750 mg (2 to 7 cups of coffee) can produce restlessness, nausea, headache, tense muscles, sleep disturbances, and irregular heart beats it can also cause Anorexia. Doses of over 750 mg (7 cups of coffee) can produce a reaction similar to an anxiety attack, including delirium, ringing ears, and light flashes. These amounts of caffeine may come from a single dose or from many doses in a short period of time.

Just found this interesting...I myself usually have at least 3 or 4 cups of tea a day (green tea though- and usually decaffeinated, but not always) and sometimes 1 or 2 cups of coffee. When the hurricane hit last weekend, I had drank something like 6 cups of coffee? (or 6 cups of tea, forget lol) and I know it equalled out to about 10 cups of caffeine.....now I know why I was feeling so dizzy and paranoid..even up to two cups of coffee can make me like that, but I had always thought it was something else, like from not eating enough that day or something.
And I have studied all night before, and then drank like 6 cups or more of coffee to stay alert and awake and it has always made me feel.....well...dizzy, shaky, and paranoid now that I think about it. (and all those headaches!! and I'd always use the excuse of drinking coffee to *help* my headache, but here it says caffiene can cause them.. ) (and make you delirious! )
Maybe I should just keep to my decafeinated green tea..
Anyone else have caffeine issues?
