What Ared and I are trying to emphasize is our love for nature and our want to preserve it. Some people do this, while others don't give two hoots about it. That's what Ared and I don't like. If all people are neglectful of the environment and litter, delibertly pollute the rivers and oceans, then it WILL take a toll on the environment. That's why there needs to be people that care enough about it to save it. Of course it is impossible to save every last tree, but that alone wouldn't be enough to convince me that I couldn't try. I practially grew up outside and I love the woods. Doing my part in helping the environment is what I am adament about, and one day I will have a job in this field. Some people just have strong feelings for this and there's nothing messed up about that.

More random thoughts on the environment...
1. Recycle paper, cardboard, trash, cans, bottles, glass, plastic... 2. Enhance your living area with living things. 3. Help when it's needed in cleaning roadsides and other valuable programs such as food banks and meals for the elderly.
Here are my random thoughts on the issue of the environment. If you wish to help the environment beyond that of the above list then promote zero population growth because it is population pressure that is destroying our planet. Elves understand this and do not have many children. Take a lesson from them and raise the children of others.

It would definitely make a difference if people would do those things (especially #1!!!!!!). And I agree, population growth is becoming a huge issue, and in the future this is only going to worsen. I think it's reasonable to have limits on population growth, for example, to limit the amount of children familes are allowed to have. (I think this is actually already being done in China.) But..making such a limit and enforcing it would probably be very difficult, because I'm sure right away there would be protests about "violation of freedom" or something similiar. I'd think enforcing a zero population growth ban would probably just be impossible, because families will want to have at least one child of their own, if not more to pass on the family line. Even I don't think I could agree with such a strict population ban, but I do think a limit on population growth is reasonable. It's not only that we are over-using the Earth's resources because of an evergrowing population, but also because we are not using them in the best possible way. To save the environment we will ultimately have to come up with alternatives, or alternate ways of doing things, making things, etc. so that the new ways use up less resources, and in a much more sensible way. (i.e. for essential survival only!! )Much of the stress on the Earth's resources could likely be reduced if only people made sacrifices, yes it would be much less comfortable to us but it's what will have to be done, unless things continue as they are now...and I don't even want to think about that. The reality is really just that we will not be able to live the way we do now, in this highly industrial age, and still save the environment. We are the ones that are going to have to change. Drastically. This idea scares people, and most are still not facing the reality of it... Good thoughts though Glorfindel!

Well actually we'd probably all agree with you lol... in all honestly I don't hate kids (I'm a nanny; I can't lol), but here's the deal: 1) It would be fun to have 0-3 year olds - they're sooo sweet - after that they are a pain 2) And older children are fine - as long as they GO HOME lolol ;D I probably sound like the child-hater now heh... but I don't hate them! I have 4 brothers and sisters and my best friend from OK (Noel - she's here as Lady Arryndell) has 8... so we get to watch 12 children 12 years old and under when we see eachother lol... and they're annoying but we love them lol.

No, you don't sound like a child hater at all!! And it makes me feel better that other people will agree with me about the reasons why I don't want kids because I've told people (outside this forum) and they just stared at me like I was this bizarre person. Everyone has their own preference and if I have kids, great. If I don't, that's good too. One reason (how the heck did we get on this random subject? *checks thread* Well, I guess that I came to the right place for it lol) I've grown up in a family where everyone just wanted to stay put all the time. I've never been on a plane before and I've NEVER been out of the northeast. I've never been more than 4 hours away from home (meaning while traveling...I have to be away from home more than 4 hours at a time obviously if I am to attend classes and actually LIVE at school lol ). So basically all I've ever wanted to do my entire life was see other places, but I was never given that opportunity. So the thought of having kids fills me with dread. Reasons: - Kids need to attend school. Hence traveling would be extrememly difficult because it would mean that I would have to move around a lot. That makes no sense. - Kids need a lot of care and they are a lot of work. They should have plenty of attention, but I don't think that I would have the desire to give it to them. I didn't grow up spoiled from a lot of attention, so I'd probably be the same way with them. I'm sure that I have a whole lot of other reasons but I can't think right now because I'm tired... The bottom line is that I'd like to be a bit of an explorer or an adventurer for a while and do things that I was never able to do while I've lived at home. It makes sense to me!!!
