Should they make The Hobbit into a movie? I think it would be cool, but I want other people's opinions!

Make It A Movie!!!! I agree with you MrShadow. they need to make it into a movie. I also hear rumers that they are trying to make the Sillmarilion into a movie. ( read it then see it ) I don't know how they could do that though, because it's more than one story... but we'll see. I think that we may have gotten wee bit off topic though, so I'll add this in. The Hobbit is an awesome book, it's the first one that I read. I love the part where Gandalf saves Bilbo from the trollimabobers.

The Hobbit is my favorite. I like it more than LotR. Not that I hate LotR or anything though. I just like The Hobbit a wee bit more. But my little Megan would say it's dull. Such a funny spirit she is. I like Bilbo sooo much. He is my childhood idol in a way. So cute and round-eyed. Ah, those were the good old days...

a) both the hobbit and the silmarilion would be near impossible to make because of plot (the silmarilion isnt one story) and filming/animation contraints
b) the actors are not the right age (ie: the guy who plays bilbo is too old to play a younger version of bilbo)
c) the world of the hobbit is more child-like, especially when bilbo puts on the ring. there is not much fighting, or any of the sort, so it would not attract as many people who havent read the books
my oppinion: leave them as books, because making them into movies would ruin them

Not if you do it right. I don't care what they do, though. I've abandoned entertainment quite a bit. Too much criticism by too many people. And his name is Ian Holm. Give him a little respect, man(not trying to be rude in any way). He's an older gentleman with achievements, so he deserves marvelous respect. ;D Cheers!

Well I would agree I think 'The Hobbit' would make a great movie, but definitely not the Sil (it would just be impossible). 'The Hobbit' might have been written for children, but that doesn't mean a film version would have to be at all the same way. There really is enough action (and ;Dadventure -and enough plot, there is a solid story to pull a script from) in the book to develop into a great story on film as well.

I think that "The Hobbit" would be a challenge to make, but I would love to see it happen. So many people love it and PJ sounds interested in seeing it become a reality one day. But like you said, Aikanaro, they couldn't have Ian Holm play Bilbo because he's too old. That might make some of the LotR movie fans shy away from seeing "The Hobbit" because Bilbo would be played by a different actor. As for me, if they could find an actor that was perfect for the role (as PJ has a natural nack for doing anyway) I would see the movie in a second.

It would really dishearten me if they didn't make it a movie. I would love to see it happen and I would definitely see it. but I agree with Nien and Aik that Ian Holm (sadly) could not play Bilbo which would totally suck and make it almost not worth seeing, because Ian is such a good actor and is good at playing Bilbo, but yes I would love to see it happen.

But I do hope that they keep Ian McKellan for Gandalf and all the characters that can be the same actors from LotR, otherwise I'd be very mad. And I hope they keep Gollum the same.

I think that I heard somewhere that if they make "The Hobbit" they would keep Ian Mckellen as Gandalf, and Andy Serkis as Gollum. Also, they would also want Hugo Weaving to return as Elrond. But John Ryes Davies didn't sound too keen on playing Gloin. He had sooo many problems with the prostetics for Gimli. He was actually allergic to the material and he was in terrible pain. It made him very self-conscious. Also, if you remember all the times you saw Gimli running, (or should I say falling behind everyone lol) especially in TTT, John REALLY WAS exhausted. That wasn't just acting!! He had over 80 pounds (I think that's the number that the special features gave) worth of equipment including clothes and weapons that he had to carry. But anyway, before I get COMPLETELY off topic, at least PJ would be keeping a few of the actors that LotR fans have come to love.

Well I really think John should do it for Gloin, since he's Gloin's son and it would just make sense. But I do understand, I saw that he was allergic and it said it a lot in the appendices, but I hope he does do it. I can't wait to see what Smaug looks like.
