Time to bring this one back from the dead... Here's something new... My one hermit crab (Liam) has been trying to "kill" the smaller one (Liamette) for the past few days. At first it was like an old married couple having an argument. He'd kick her out of the igloo and keep it for himself. She'd wallow in self-pity right outside the entrance, attempt to come back in, succeed for a few hours, but then get kicked out again. Then I'd catch Liam try to literally push Liamette around the sand. (Granted that I know absolutely nothing regarding natural crab territory battles, etc and the above is just me trying to look at it from a bored human perspective. ) Another incident involved Liamette digging under the water dish and Liam standing on top of it squashing her into the sand underneath. I heard all this scuffling going on and was like, "What the heck?" so I looked and didn't see Liamette at first. I'm tired right now so I can't think of what else happened, but the other day I did have to separate them four times. Keeping a close watch on them just in case.

It was bad because they were both up at the same time, and during the day. Usually hermit crabs come out at night so it was weird that happened. Maybe they were just really stressed over something. I've read about how animals can predict natural disasters (herds of land animals retreating far inland for no apparent reason) so maybe it was something freaky like that. I have no idea. I try to "listen" to them to be able to figure out the types of things they might need. It's a hard thing to guess. I think the smaller one needs someone his/her size to be around because the bigger one just keeps pushing her. But I don't want to get another crab because they're crowded in their cage as it is, and I just don't know where I'm going to be. I already have a surrogate family lined up if and when that happens, so at least they'll be taken care of.

I think that I'm not going to take my laptop on vacation after all. I had two friends tell me that it would just weigh me down and give me one more thing to worry about looking after when I'm there. Besides, the hotel has computers in the lobby that I can use. Might as well take advantage of that. So I likely won't be coming on here at all during that time. The vacation is technically from January 23rd - 30th, but I don't actually arrive in Montana until the 31th. So maybe expect me back sometime that night or even Feb 1st. You'll have to hold down the fort without me. lol

I guess it's my turn.
It's actually raining where I am. That's a rare thing for here. It's either snowing or cloudy, rarely raining this time of year. I keep hoping the sun will come out again because it did this morning for literally 20 seconds or less. I stopped what I was doing and just stared at it. It was that amazing. I miss my vitamin D overload in Hawaii. What a treat.
